History

Otten English School

Nestled in the heart of Wandoor, Otten English Medium School stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of Reverend Henry J. Otten and his unwavering dedication to serving the community. In 1987, the school was founded in Reverend Otten’s memory, commemorating his remarkable contributions to the people of Wandoor.

Arriving in Wandoor alongside his wife, Mary Esther, in 1950, Reverend Otten, a missionary from the U.S.A., was deeply moved by the hardships faced by the local populace. Motivated by compassion, he embarked on a mission to alleviate their suffering, recognizing the urgent need for medical care, nutrition, and education. Thus, Karunalaya Hospital, meaning ‘Abode of Mercy’, was established, offering free medical services, clothing, and nutritious food supplements to the underprivileged.

Reverend Otten’s selfless actions and boundless love became a beacon of hope for the community, reflecting the grace of God in a profound manner. His passing in 1985 prompted a desire among those who cherished him to honor his memory through meaningful initiatives. Recognizing the pressing need for education in Wandoor, it was decided to establish an English Medium School rooted in the principles of life-related education.

In 1987, Otten English Medium School began its journey as a kindergarten, symbolizing hope and opportunity for the future. Guided by divine providence, the school experienced gradual yet steadfast growth, culminating in its transformation into a full-fledged Senior Secondary School up to Class XII in 2005. Today, with a total enrollment of 720 students, the school continues to uphold Reverend Otten’s vision of holistic education, equipping students with the skills to navigate life’s challenges independently while fostering a spirit of community and compassion.

As we honor the legacy of Reverend Otten, let us reaffirm our commitment to serving others and nurturing future generations, ensuring that his legacy of love and service endures for generations to come.

Message from Principal

Good Education Starts From Great Teachers

At Otten English Medium School, we take great pride in our commitment to providing exceptional education across a diverse spectrum of subjects. Our dedication to excellence extends to offerings such as Arabic and Islamic studies, reflecting our inclusive approach to education. Through our efforts, we have succeeded in inspiring even the most conservative segments of our community to embrace the idea of educating their daughters. This transformative shift has had a profound impact on our local demographic and socio-economic landscape, fostering a more inclusive and dynamic environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive. Today, we celebrate the countless achievements of our female students who are leaving an indelible mark in various professional fields, embodying the transformative power of education.

As we reflect on our journey, let us continue to nurture a culture of openness and empowerment, where every child is encouraged to pursue their dreams without limitations. Together, let us build a future where education knows no boundaries and where every individual has the opportunity to realize their full potential. Thank you for entrusting us with the education and well-being of your children.
